The ancient Hebrew tradition had an annual ritual which included the slaughtering and exiling of two goats; hence the term ´scapegoat´. One goat was slaughtered as a sacrifice, in order for the community to atone for its sins. The second was sent into the wilderness carrying the sins of the community with it. I understand that these archetypes are imbeded deep within my psche. I slaughter others by blaming/projectng my sins onto them. I am in denial by pushing my sins into the unconcious, projecting onto other(s)ness. By enacting ritual, through art making, I become aware of these machinations, pledging myself to a practice of accepting accountability for myself, choosing this above blame and pejudice.
